Solving life’s problems using the internet

Filed under: Technology — coretron @ 3:20 am

As much as we would like to think we are accustomed to using the internet I find we aren’t using it enough to do things and solve problems. For example, I was recently talking to someone about car problems and I mentioned that I had taken out my alternator and had it tested. They asked how I learned to do it. The answer: I went to Google and typed “civic remove alternator.” After sifting through the results I found a forum where someone detailed how to do it. To learn to install a modchip I went to google and said “install matrix xbox modchip” (matrix was the brand of the chip). If it asks you to solder something and you don’t know how to solder search “how to solder”. You’ll find quick informative guides on how to solder, with a little practice of course. Then there are the people paying Best Buy $50 just to install a power supply on their computer. Go to Google and type “how to install power supply.” You’ll find idiot proof instructions on how to install a power supply. My point is you can learn to do anything or find almost any fact on the internet and people really don’t take advantage of that nearly enough, even me. Especially now that most of us have the internet wherever we go. It’s approaching The Matrix where Neo needs to learn how to fly the helicopter and gets the information downloaded to his brain. Of course there are still things that require practice and hands on training, but if you want more space on your Tivo try googling “more space tivo” where you’ll find a step by step video on how to do it. There are millions who would love to have more space on their Tivo but apparently they never thought to search Google.

I agree. I love my interwebs. I recently replaced the cabin air filter in my girlfriend’s car with the help of google.
