My Next Phone and Why it should be Your’s too

Behold! The HTC Dream!

It’s hard to imagine life without the Internet, we have come to rely on it as a source of all knowledge and entertainment. But you don’t need me to tell you how great the Internet is. Despite the Internet’s greatness we still accept that it is only fully experienced through a desktop or laptop. The Blackberry and iPhone were good steps in the direction of actual web browsing, but I believe Android will take you far closer; Not only in actual web browsing, but also through allowing applications to fully use the Internet.

In the past cellphones have been crippled by the software put on them by the carriers, and not you or anyone else could make any applications or changes to anything significant. With Android anyone can write an application and submit it to the Android Marketplace where anyone can download it. These applications have full Internet access as well as access to any of the phones features including GPS, camera, or even the accelerometers. It’s even so open that they allow anyone to make their own application distribution system. Indeed, this phone (with its 528Mhz processor) and its operating system further blur the line between a laptop and a phone. However, I believe there is a price to pay for openness. We cannot expect an open platform to work as smoothly as the iPhone where every detail is set according to Jobs’ Master Plan. Android instead relies on a strong community of users and programers, which takes time to fully develop. There are Tons of reasons to get the HTC Dream form T-mobile on October 13th for $199, but the sun is rising.

  1. Is the browser gonna be like the IPhone’s? Which is pretty cool? Or a crappy mobile browser like other “internet” phones?
